Living at the bottom of the world comes with many upsides: space, serenity, and distance from the chaos. However, when it comes to accessing the latest medical technologies and performance tools, Aotearoa can often feel like the last stop on the global innovation train. With a small population and high freight costs, we’re often overlooked when new tech rolls out.

That’s a problem for someone like me, who lives for the bleeding edge.

I spend a lot of time immersed in research, scanning the latest developments in wearables, peptides, neurotech, and regenerative medicine. But reading papers only gets you so far. I want to feel what works, because as any practitioner knows, life isn’t lived in a petri dish. Results in tightly controlled studies don’t always translate to the complexity of real life. And sometimes, the magic isn’t in a single intervention, but in how tools combine, stacking modalities for synergistic impact that a single treatment just can’t deliver. As a practitioner, I can only provide high-level support when I have experienced it firsthand.

With Ethlos Dalnos (EDS: a flexibility disorder), I have a backlog of injuries (multiple joints and a series of Trumatic Brain Injuries over the years), navigating business expansion through COVID, and the beautiful chaos of having a baby, I had not been able to travel outside of New Zealand as much as I would have liked. But this trip to Istanbul changed that. Turkey is a global hotspot for medical travel, and it gave me the chance to finally explore a suite of devices and therapies that had been on my wishlist for years, treatments that are just not accessible at home.

A Quick Note Before We Dive In

Just because I’m exploring bleeding-edge technologies doesn’t mean you need them.

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned over the years is this: there are no shortcuts in health. “Real health is slow health.” Tools like these are exciting, but they only amplify what’s already working. If your foundation isn’t strong, for example, if your sleep is poor, your nutrition is inconsistent, or your nervous system never gets a break, no amount of IV therapy or neurotech will deliver lasting results.

The basics will always outperform the biohacks.

We only recommend exploring these kinds of interventions after you’ve mastered the fundamentals for a sustained period of time. Think of them as multipliers, not magic bullets. Without a solid base, you’re likely just wasting your time and money.

That said, for those already operating at a high level and looking to break through plateaus, the frontier can offer some powerful insights. Here’s what I tested, and what I learned.

What I Tried in Istanbul

Here’s a breakdown of the tools and treatments I explored, grouped by their core function:

Stacking with Purpose

With limited time in Istanbul, I chose to stack multiple interventions close together. This was a strategic move, not just out of necessity, but to pursue maximum impact across a short window.

While the scientist in me would’ve loved to isolate variables and track each treatment’s individual effect, that just wasn’t realistic for this trip. Instead, I leaned into combining treatments that complemented each other. Many of the benefits I experienced came from the synergy of stacked modalities rather than a single intervention.

So, while I’ve broken them down below for clarity, it’s important to note that I can’t fully speak to each one in a vacuum. This is often how our clients operate, too, looking for practical gains over perfect control. And honestly, I think most people would understand the desire to feel better fast when the opportunity presents itself.

Optimising Energy & Immunity

Multipass IV Ozone Therapy
IV ozone therapy is a remarkable treatment that stimulates the body’s natural healing processes to address the root causes of disease. It can strengthen your immune system, enhance recovery, prevent illness, and even slow the aging process. IV ozone therapy works by improving oxygen utilisation and boosting cellular energy, which can contribute to better health and resilience.

My experience: After my second session, the fog I’d been carrying began to lift. At first, during and post-session, I felt quite light-headed, but by the next day, mental heaviness lightened and energy had a smoother curve throughout the day. Subtle, but with long-term potential.

Who this might help: Executives managing long COVID, inflammatory load, or persistent fatigue that doesn’t respond to basics.

IV Infusions (Personalised)
Intravenous (IV) vitamin therapy (also known as intravenous micronutrient therapy and hydration therapy) is a way to give high concentrations of vitamins.

My experience: I felt sharper, not wired, just clearer. With a 10-month-old at home and long-haul travel in my system, this was a noticeable shift, as I was able to optimise certain vitamins and micronutrients much quicker than with supplementation and nutrition. The response was felt a lot quicker than the gradual build-up from supplements. However, it’s important to know your data so you don’t overload your system with vitamins or micronutrients that are already abundant; this can be extremely dangerous.

Who this might help: Leaders juggling travel, recovery, and focus who want to optimise energy and cognitive capacity.

Repairing and Regenerating the Body

Injectable Peptides (BPC-157, TB-500, GHK-Cu)
Offer synergistic tissue regeneration and anti-inflammatory benefits by activating multiple repair pathways.

My experience: This one is still ongoing, as I’ll be taking it for a 3-month cycle. I’m hoping for recovery from longstanding injuries and better bounce-back from movement sessions. I noticed soft tissue tightness releasing in areas that had felt stuck. I’m monitoring for longer-term outcomes.

Who this might help: Anyone with old injuries, joint instability, or wear-and-tear from years of high performance.

Metabolic & Physical Performance

VASPER
A 20-minute workout combining HIIT, localised cryotherapy, and blood flow restriction (Occlusion training).

My experience: Incredible ROI. I felt like I’d done a 60-minute session with only 20 minutes of effort. I was surprised by the delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) in the days following. A powerful full-body stimulus, I see long-term potential for anyone on a time crunch looking for results.

Who this might help: Time-poor executives wanting the metabolic benefits of training without extended time commitment or recovery burden.

CellGym
An advanced system for Intermittent Hypoxia-Hyperoxia Training (IHHT), for more energy in the body’s cells, more performance & vitality for life.

My experience: It’s an intense sensation having limited oxygen access. You really need to relax into it and remind your body it is safe. I didn’t enjoy the suction of the mask, it pushed my jaw into an uncomfortable position, which left it sore afterwards. That said, I see the potential in a device like this. It’s a powerful yet passive modality that’s easy to incorporate into a routine or stack with other treatments.

Who this might help: Anyone recovering from respiratory challenges, athletes looking to enhance oxygen efficiency and endurance, or individuals seeking to improve overall mitochondrial health and systemic resilience.

Calming the Nervous System

ZeroBody
The Dry Float Therapy takes advantage of the benefits of flotation to allow the body and mind to regain energy in an easy and versatile way that suits everyone.

My experience: This was one of the more calming experiences of the trip, particularly on days when my nervous system felt frayed, such as when I arrived jet-lagged. The ZeroBody felt like a pause button. Floating dry on heated water, accompanied by music and subtle movement, created a unique sense of stillness without getting wet. I stacked most of my sessions with NeuroVizr, which enhanced the recovery effect. The only drawback was that at 38 degrees, I sometimes overheated toward the end of the session, something I also experience in traditional float tanks, but hey, at least no water gets stuck in my ears! That said, the overall benefit to the nervous system was tangible.

Who this might help: High-performers with elevated stress, those with limited access to stillness, or anyone needing a structured nervous system down-regulation without full float tank immersion, which provides a much quicker turnaround than needing to shower and dry off post session. Especially for anyone with long hair, as I know Rachel didn’t enjoy that side of traditional flotation tanks.

NeuroVizr
A device that transmits light into your closed eyes to repattern the brain and nervous system.

My experience: This was one of the most surprising tools. After one session, I felt grounded and mentally reorganised. Emotionally, I felt less reactive and more spacious. It presents as a light show of patterns flashing on your eyelids, captivating yet soothing. I really enjoyed this device and may look at getting one for home. It even put me to sleep in one session. Stacking it with ZeroBody was perfect while managing jet lag.

Who this might help: Clients navigating stress recovery, trauma repair, or executive burnout.

BioCharger
It helps activate the body’s natural ability to heal and recover, turning exhaustion into vibrant health.

My experience: As crazy as it may sound, I could feel pulses of energy channelling through my body. It’s subtle, but I definitely felt charged yet calm during and after the session. The only limitation is that you can’t wear other devices at the same time, which makes stacking with other technologies challenging. But it also presents a great opportunity for stillness and meditation.

Who this might help: Those who are founders or creatives in high-stakes environments who need to regularly activate calm energy.

Oral Health & Functional Dentistry

One often overlooked area of performance is the mouth, but it shouldn’t be. Overall health starts with oral health, and it’s impossible to thrive if your oral microbiome is under constant attack. Istanbul isn’t just known for cosmetic dentistry. It’s also home to some exceptionally skilled functional/biological dentists, who work with the body, not against it.

During my trip, I opted for a Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) clean, a far gentler and more advanced approach than the standard scale-and-polish treatments I’d grown to dread. GBT uses a targeted air-polishing technique with warm water and natural powders to remove biofilm (the harmful bacterial layer) without damaging enamel or disturbing the healthy bacteria that support your oral microbiome. It also naturally enhances teeth whiteness, without the harsh chemicals or abrasion of traditional whitening treatments.

My experience: As someone who actively avoids the dentist, this was a surprisingly positive experience. The treatment was painless, respectful of my nervous system, and left my mouth feeling fresh without the harsh scraping or gum trauma I’ve come to expect from traditional cleans. I also left with a noticeably brighter smile.

Who this might help: High-performers and health-conscious individuals who want to reduce systemic inflammation by starting with oral health, a key driver of cardiovascular, immune, and neurological wellbeing. GBT is ideal for those with sensitivity or dental anxiety and offers a far more comfortable, biome-friendly alternative to standard cleans. It’s not just about cleaner teeth, but a smarter way to support whole-body health. Not just a cosmetic upgrade.

What I Didn’t Get to Trial (But Still Want To)

Not everything went as planned, and that’s okay. Some treatments were postponed due to clinic closures for a public holiday period, while others were simply not possible at this time. Here’s what’s still on the top of my radar

Peptides: I am currently testing three other peptides mentioned above, but I would have also liked to stack these three upon them, especially Cerebrolysin, which has been challenging to obtain.

  • IV Cerebrolysin for brain repair post-TBI
  • Semax + Selank (nasal spray peptides) for neuroprotection and stress resilience

Ultrasound-guided VESEL PRP for ligament and joint regeneration:

  • Right little finger: ruptured ligament
  • Left ankle: Multiple sprains leading to chronic laxity and instability
  • Cranial cervical instability (CCI): This is linked to the original head injury. This is a very specialised treatment that I was hoping to receive in the USA on my way to Istanbul, but sadly, that part of my trip was cancelled. I will stick to the current treatments for the time being, but revisit this option if I am still experiencing issues.

What You Can Do Without Leaving the Country

Not everyone can jump on a plane for this kind of access, but there are powerful ways to apply these insights at home, starting with what matters most: your foundations.

Before diving into diagnostics, tech, or travel, focus on what we know works:

  • Sleep: Prioritise quality and consistency. Without good sleep, no advanced therapy will have staying power.
  • Nutrition: Eat to nourish, not just fuel. Whole foods, stable blood sugar, and micronutrient support make everything else more effective.
  • Movement: Consistent, intentional movement helps regulate energy, metabolism, and resilience.
  • Stress recovery: Daily downshifting rituals, even as simple as breathwork or walking without distraction, are essential.

Once the basics are locked in and consistent, and you’re still not getting the outcomes you want, then it might be time to explore further:

  • Wearables and diagnostics can help uncover deeper mechanisms at play, such as hormonal issues, nutrient deficiencies, and sleep disruptions. You don’t need to work with us directly (we have limited capacity), but speak with a practitioner you trust.
  • Targeted interventions: Based on what you uncover, you can explore local therapies that match the outcome you’re after. For example:
    • For calming the nervous system:
Consider visiting a flotation clinic, integrating restorative movements like yin yoga or somatic work, prioritising nature exposure, and focusing on sleep hygiene.
    • For tissue regeneration:
Peptides are challenging to access in New Zealand; however, progress can still be made through structured rehabilitation programs personalised by a rehabilitation professional, infrared saunas, red light therapy, progressive strength training, and collagen-rich nutrition.
    • For energy optimisation:
Try hot/cold contrast therapies, breathwork, and mitochondrial-supportive nutrition.
  • Start stacking simply: You don’t need fancy devices to benefit from stacking. Cold exposure, light movement, and a walk in the sunlight can outperform most hacks when done consistently.

And if you’re unsure what’s holding you back, we can help you decode it. We blend deep diagnostics with a human-first strategy to build performance that lasts.
